Recognized for
- Winning the biggest first place prize in the history of poker tournaments at the 2005 World Series of Poker at $7.5 million.
- Joseph outlasted the largest field in W.S.O.P. history, 5,618 players.
- On the final hand of the W.S.O.P., Joseph flopped a straight while holding a 7,3 offsuit, with a flop of 6,5,4. When the turn brought an Ace, his opponent Steve Dannenmann made top pair and they both eventually went all-in. Joseph’s straight won the pot and tournament as a 4 was no help to Dannenmann.
- He was short-stacked for most of the entire final table, until there were 5 players left, and he took his stand with a Q7 versus Aaron Kanter’s pocket nines. The flop was Q82 and Joseph’s hand would hold up and he did not look back for the rest of the tournament.
- Throughout the tournament after each winning pot by Joseph, his supporters chanted a famous Australian saying, “Aussie, Aussie, Oi!, Oi!, Oi!”
- Joseph is now a representative of Poker Stars, but did pay for his own buy-in for the W.S.O.P. at $10,000.
- In 2002, Joseph was forced to give up his chiropractic career due to a rare blood disorder in his hands and that is when he seriously took up poker.
